I believe the homes are expensive because even though most of the material is recycled, those solar panels are ridiculously expensive to purchase. I may be wrong, but it's just a shot in the dark. I definitely would love to purchase one of these homes if I had the cash.

Earthsips are supposed to save you money and are kinder to the enviornment but to be honest it seems to me that it is just another exuse for someone to overprice garbage!!! send me the blue-prints and i bet i can build one for half the price! i have plenty of garbage waiting to serve a purpose lol come on lets be realistic here, solar pannels are expensive but not 400,000 dollars expensive!!!!!!

These are not cookie-cutter, cheaply made suburban homes. Yes the materials are cheap, but like IWant said, the technology in these things are expensive. A neighbor of mine just purchased a new fully independent, off the grid solar system for her house. $95,000. Just the solar system. Considering all the other innovative technologies in some of these units I'm really not surprised at the price.
